Another CD that I bought because of one of the three "Melodic Mayhem"-compilations of Megarock records back in the early Nineties was POLE POSITION's self-titled debut (and to my knowledge only album), released in 1993. What would you expect from a Swedish band on a series called "Melodic Mayhem"? Exactly, Melodic Rock, in this case a mix between the classical Swedish sound and DEF LEPPARD during their "Hysteria" era. So very, very catchy with those multi-vocal choruses, very melodic, but never drifting off into the sappiness of many acts of this kind, mostly thanks to the different guitar-sound and its melodies, which have a far less "happy" sound to it.
The opener "Out in The Night" was what had caught me, vintage, high-class and -voltage Melodic Rock with that big DEF LEPPARD-esque chorus, perfect opener, but also the rest, like the energetic "Rock Doll" or the grooving "Are We Lovers" all should please any Melodic Rock connoisseur among you, not least because of the clear and good production, which fits the compositions almost perfectly.
Megarock folded many years ago and their distribution never had been good in first place, I could imagine that POLE POSITION is rather hard to find, but trust me, it's worth hunting this down, if you are a fan of the sound I had stated at the beginning!
